STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The 38 Staten Islanders profiled as part of the Advance’s/SILive.com Life Upended series are prime examples of the trials and hardships faced by millions of Americans during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Some business owners profiled for the series used this time to capitalize on new ventures, while others waited out the storm and are now trying to recoup lost revenue. Others were forced to shutter completely.

We caught up with some of those people profiled in the series over the past year to let you know where they are now.
